Scratch Art

For this project we first we took a pencil and colored over the back of our drawing. We then placed the scratch art paper under the drawing. We then took a wooden stylis and traced over the lines in our drawing. Next we scratched off the design that we had just traced onto the scratch art paper. My picture is of the cream can that my husband and I used at our wedding to put the cards in. I found this project to be fun and nonstressful. This would be good for students that aren't confident in their drawings and also provides a fun way to create a new picture of something they had already drawn.

For this assignment we each started out with four words that we were to define in our own words. We then used different types of wet media to describe the word. We then traded our work with the class. We then had to use dry mediums such as charcoal, oil pastels, and chalk to further describe the word. We then traded our pieces again. Next we added pictures to our pieces to finish describing them. At the end we all got our original pieces back and had a chance to change them one last time. This project is a good way for students to interact other students and also gives them a chance to work together to make a project. This could be integrated into a language arts lesson by having the students make collages of their vocabulary words.

Eric Carle's Collage Picture

For this project I used inspiration from Eric Carle's Very Hungry Catipillar. In his books he uses collages to create his illustrations. I created my own paste paper designs and then used mine and others papers to create my picture.

I think this project could be intergrated in some very interesting ways. You could create a lesson geared toward K-2 grade and use this lesson not only as an art lesson, but as a science lesson. You could use this as a lesson about life cycles particularly life cycles of catapillers. You could then have the students create their own pictures and create pictures of the different life cycles of the catapillers.

Hidden Safari

This is my hidden safari picture. In my picture I used a blue colored pencil and drew a rhinoceros with a monkey on his back by using the upsidedown drawing technique. Then I used warm colors and hid the picture by drawing different types of lines over my picture. If I were to intergrate this into my classroom I could have my students create pictures and expirement with different colors and use what they know about colors to make their own hidden drawing.

Starry Night

This is my finger painting of Starry Night. I'm sitting out on a starry summer night, watching the stars and laying under the beautiful sky as if it were my blanket covering me completely. The moon is like my nightlight illuminating trees and other objects around me with a soft glow. As the night grows later, I feel a wave of exhaustion come over me. I slowly drift off to sleep, under my blanket of stars.

Elements and Principles of Design

This is my elements and principles of design project. I had texture and movement. For my texture I used leaves and foam ladybugs. I positioned both the ladybugs and leaves in a pattern that moves your eye around the page. I used three mediums in my piece, leaves, the foam ladybugs and pencil. This could be integrated into a 3rd-4th grade classroom when teaching students about objects in nature, they could then make their own projects using different element and principles of design.

My Footprint

My footprint is about important elements of my life.

The ring and the 8-1-09 is the day I got married to my husband BJ.
I have a barn on my footprint because I grew up on a farm and currently live on a farm.
The horse's head represent both my favorite animal and one of my hobbies. I love to ride horse and have grown up with horses.
The flower is a Gerber Daisy it is my favorite flower and is what we had for flowers at our wedding.
Family is very important to me. My family is my support system and we have gone through many good times as well as bad times together. Without them I would not be who I am today.

This would be a good icebreaker activity for many different grade levels.
