Stepping Stones

For this lesson we were asked to bring in pictures, beads, shells, and any other objects that we wanted to place in our stepping stones. We then poured cement into whipped cream bowls and were able create our own designs with the materials we brought. For an extension activity to go along with this would be when learning about chemical and physical changes and also when talking about rocks.

Scrapbooking Made Easy

In this lesson we learned about scrapbooking made easy. We were asked to bring our own photos, stickers, and anything else we could use in our scrapbook page. We then got to design our own scrapbook page. I chose three pictures from my wedding for my scrapbook page. As an extension to this project I would have the students make a scrapbook of a vacation place. It could work into a geography lesson, having the students look up information about the vacation spot they pick.

Perspective Drawings

In this lesson we learned about vanishing point. We were supposed to draw a city street with buildings that all went to the same point. For an extension activity I would have the students make up stories about their cities and share those stories with the class.

Pastel Landscapes

In this lesson we used chalk pastels to create a landscape. We first practiced using chalk pastels by shading shapes to make them look 3D. We then picked out different pictures of landscapes and made our own version of that landscape with our pastels. We learned how to layer the different colors and add detail to our pictures. I would integrate this by having the students write stories to go along with their landscapes.

Four Seasons Window

For this project we created the four seasons of a tree that you might see when looking out a window. The first thing we did was paint the skies of each of our seasons. Next we added the different characteristics to each of the seasons. We used an apple tree for our tree and put buds and apples on it. We used glitter and cotton balls for winter and pieces of paper for fall. I would integrate this project into a science lesson when studying the seasons and the characteristics of them.

Printmaking

This was another project that was taught by classmates. For this project we took Styrofoam plates and made holiday prints in them by pushing down what we wanted to keep white when printing them. We then took printing ink and rolled it over our prints. Next we placed our plates down on a piece of construction paper and rolled over the top of it creating a print of what we had designed. I would integrate this project into a language arts lesson by having the students print their cards and then having them write to someone of their choice and send the cards to them.

Comic Strips

This is another project that was taught to us by classmates. For this project we created a six slide comic strip. We first talked about different shapes, color blending, and shading. Next we created a storyline and drew out our comic strip. For my comic strip I chose a viewpoint of an ant. I would use this project with a language arts lesson. We would talk about speech bubbles and then the students would have to make sure their stories were grammatically correct.
